Senior Counsel Stephen Dodd has reviewed the legal documents published by the HSE regarding the new National Maternity Hospital governance, structure and ownership.

Counsel has very significant concerns having read the documents. There are a number of key concerns.

  • The ownership of the National Maternity Hospital buildings is to be retained by SVHG , this is contrary to what was said in public previously by the Minister for Health Stephen Donnelly and Taoiseach Micheál Martin
  • The failure to adequately explain how the interests of the St. Vincent’s Healthcare Group cannot be safeguarded through contractual arrangements which they are asking the State to accept.
