When Donald Trump visited Ireland in September, the Uplift community came together to send the world a clear message that Trump, and his politics of war and violence, aren’t welcome in this country.
Thanks to the support of thousands of Uplift members who chipped in and supported the stunt, we were able to work with famous sand artist, Seán Corcoran, to carve out a giant message in the sand at Dublin Bay. It was seen by more than a million on social media and made its way into some of the biggest newspapers in the world. [1]
While Donald Trump tried to convince reporters he had “a great relationship with Ireland,” our message showed the world the real truth. Together, we made it clear that Trump isn’t welcome in Ireland and helped make his visit a talking point for issues that really matter: the genocide in Gaza, the illegal bombing in Iran that’s driving up fuel prices, and the violence of ICE agents in the US.
The Irish American vote is also really important in US politics, and Ireland holds a special place in the hearts of many people in the US. With our message featured in big US newspapers, it was a chance to show the millions of people in the US that Ireland stands in solidarity against the terror and destruction of the Trump regime.
Uplift Director Siobhán O’Donoghue said, “just as our message will be washed away by the tide, so too will Trump and his regime be washed away by the power of ordinary people, protecting each other and organising together.”
