Many people are seeing the horrors of what’s happening in Gaza and feeling helpless but there are very concrete actions you can take to make an impact. Just like with the fall of Apartheid South Africa, we know from history that boycotting works.
Teva Pharmaceuticals is the largest company in Israel and generates millions of euro in taxes every year for the Israeli government. The Israeli regime then uses much of this money to fund its ongoing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza.
In Ireland, 1 out of every 8 packs of medicine sold is from Teva yet most of what Teva sell are generic copycat brands where many identical alternatives exist.
Boycotting Teva is simple. With just one phonecall you can ask your local pharmacy to mark you down as a No-Teva customer on your file. This will ensure that no future medicines you buy will send money to the Israeli government.
Note: If you are taking a Teva medicine and your pharmacist advises you that it would be unsafe to switch brands, do not stop taking your medicine.
There are other ways that you can help, such as asking your pharmacist to become a No-Teva or Teva-Last pharmacy. This means making Teva the least preferred option so when customers come in with new prescriptions, they will be offered other brands first, ahead of Teva.
Medicine in Ireland is expensive. By switching away from Teva you are denying the Israeli government thousands of euros from your pocket and millions overall.
